How to make fringed flowers with quilling papers

Flowers made from quilling papers can be used to decorate a card front, a gift box lid, or gift tag.  Use them perhaps as single flowers, at the top of a long stem of quilling paper set down on it's side, or use them collectively and create 'bunches' of flowerheads.

These Australian native bottlebrush flowers were created with rows of "fringed" flowers.  A tiny brush with gold-metallic paint on the ends of some petals adds a highlighting effect.

Please look for the slideshow below, to add further to the various steps listed.

Instructions
Step 1
Creating the fringing:

Cut a strip of quilling paper to 4 inches in length.

Cut fine "petals" along its length (resembling a comb), leaving approximately ¼ uncut, at the bottom edge.

Step 2

Make a 'tight roll" with the fringed paper (and quilling tool).

Glue sparingly to hold, avoiding any glue touching the "fringed" section.

Hold for a moment while the glue sets.

Step 3
Making the flower:

Once dry, open up the fringed petals with a toothpick.

Step 4
Making a fringed flower with a center:

Fringe the quilling paper as shown in first step.

Next, glue a 1/8th inch x 2 inch length of contrasting colored quilling paper, onto the end of fringed paper.  This will become the center of the flower.

When dry, start rolling a "tight-roll" from the added length of contrasting quilling paper

Glue to complete tight-roll of fringed paper and allow to dry.

Step 5
Opening up the flower with a center:

Continue by opening up the (fringing) petals, with a toothpick, to reveal a flower shape with its own center.
